Two years ago today I heard the most devastating news any parent should ever hear. Your child has an inoperable brainstem gloima or DIPG and there is NOTHING we can do. How in today's society of technology can this possibly be. Why still after over 50 years are we no closer to a cure today then we were back then.
As I sit here reflecting back on the past two years and everything my child has endured, it makes me wonder just what is wrong with this world. When I wear Aimee's new shirt with all the childhood ribbons and her slogan on the front and all the brain tumor foundations on the back, people ask questions but then don't want to hear the truth or believe that this is even possible. As long a we continue to ignore it we will never find the cure. People need to take the time and listen no matter how painful the truth of the words you hear are. It will never go away by ignoring it, and even if you ignore it, that doesn't mean
your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, cousin, or close friend is safe from getting any type of childhood cancer. Cancer doesn't care who you are, where you live, how much money you make, it can get you or someone you love dearly at anytime without notice.
Everyday, I hear of more and more children being diagnosed or passing from this devastating monster, and how even some of the doctors don't seem to care or really even want to treat the children before them. If the doctor's don't understand what is wrong with your child how are you suppose to. Why or how is a parent suppose to handle this. The pain of hearing your child has less then a year to live is so heartbreaking and gut wrenching that you can't even imagine.
I ask you all to please as we approach the end of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month pray, that we will one day soon get our answers, and a cure will be found and Aimee's dream to stop all childhood cancer will become a reality, and no parent will ever have to hear your child has cancer and there is NOTHING
we can do.
Please, support one of the many wonderful childhood cancer foundations out there. Take the time and do the research, the child you save may be your own. Lets all be soldiers in this army to win the war on all childhood cancers.
Together, as one we will save our future. Please don't wait until it comes knocking on your front door. Ignoring it will NOT make it go away.
Take care and God bless you all.
Aimee, I love you and miss you more then words can say. I am and will continue to fight for your dream to stop all childhood cancer.
